I've been thinking that there's something paradoxical about the world of technology.\n\nWe build systems that are supposed to be predictable, logical, and stable.\n\nAnd when something breaks, our first reaction is usually instinctive.\n\nWe fix what's visible.\n\nWe change a number.\n\nWe move a formula.\n\nWe turn it off and on again.\n\nAnd then we move on as if nothing happened.<\/p>\n\n\n

It's just that someone once showed me that real work only begins when you stop trusting the first symptom.\n\nWhen, instead of putting out the fire, you start looking for the spark.\n\nAnd maybe that's exactly why I fell in love with the man who limps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I shouldn't like him.\n\nHe's uncomfortable.\n\nToo honest.\n\nToo sharp.\n\nHe doesn't try to be nice, and he doesn't try to be liked.\n\nHe doesn't care whether someone feels offended.\n\nAnd yet, every time he appeared on the screen, I waited for that moment when his mind would start working like a radar.\n\nSearching for what others couldn't see.\n\nQuestioning what everyone else had accepted as fact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. House. The man who never treated symptoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everyone saw a cough. He saw the immune system.\n\nEveryone saw a rash.\n\nHe saw a life story, an environment, and secrets the patient would rather keep hidden.\n\nEveryone saw an error.\n\nHe saw the mechanism behind it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the longer I work in IT, the more I understand how necessary that mindset is.\n\nA dashboard shows incorrect numbers, and the first thought is to fix the formula.\n\nA report isn't working, so we remove the part that's failing.\n\nA system slows down, so we add more resources.\n\nFast, efficient, effective.\n\nThe problem is that it's not always a solution.\n\nSometimes it's just a bandage on a broken bone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe that's why I grew to like House so much.\n\nBecause he reminds us that the truth can be uncomfortable, but it is always more valuable than comfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is, however, something else that connects me to him.\n\nSomething that people don't talk about out loud because it doesn't fit the image of someone who is supposed to handle projects, tasks, and deadlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Migraines have been with me for as long as I can remember.\n\nThey appear without warning, sometimes at the worst possible moment.\n\nAnd just as House had to learn how to function despite the pain, I learned how to organize my life around it.\n\nNot to fight it by force, but to find a way to keep it from taking control of my entire day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I feel one coming on, time becomes everything.\n\nIf I react early enough, I can still work.\n\nI turn on dark mode everywhere I can.\n\nI limit notifications.\n\nThe tasks that can wait disappear from my to-do list.\n\nI work in energy-saving mode.\n\nJust enough to do my job and still have enough energy in the evening to smile at my children.<\/p>\n\n\n

Working in IT requires energy management.\n\nAnd although migraines are not something I would wish for, they have taught me mindfulness.\n\nThey have taught me to listen to the signals my body sends long before the pain appears.\n\nThey have taught me that limitations do not have to take away your competence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

House limps, but he never stops being brilliant.\n\nI have migraines, but I never stop being effective.\n\nAnd maybe that's exactly why I understand him so well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I fell in love with two men.\n\nOne limps. The other flies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the first one reminds me that symptoms are only the beginning of the story.\n\nThat pain may limit the body, but it does not take away character or competence.\n\nThat sometimes the most important question is not what broke, but why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And you?\n\nThe next time you see an error in a system, will you stop at the surface, or will you look deeper?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
